Eczema makes the skin dry, itchy and easily irritated. It cannot always be cured, but good daily care can keep it under control.
Daily care
- Moisturise at least once a day, ideally straight after bathing
- Use lukewarm water and a gentle, fragrance-free cleanser
- Avoid known triggers such as harsh soaps, some fabrics and sweat left on the skin
- Keep nails short to limit damage from scratching
When to see a dermatologist
- The skin is weeping, cracked, or looks infected
- Itching is disturbing your sleep
- The rash keeps coming back, especially on the hands, which may point to an allergy or a work-related cause
Please do not use strong steroid creams for long periods without medical advice, as they can thin the skin.
